To Be Infinity
The human brain may lack all the ingredients necessary to fully understand the concept of infinity. This, coupled with the fact that on earth things follow a sequential pattern: everything begins and eventually ends; makes infinity almost seem implausible.
Our religions promise a sort of infinity, eternal life and all, but what about the physical aspects of it? Let's use the analogy of an egg in the fridge. Let's say that our universe is contained within an egg in an old refrigerator somewhere. Now as far as we've been able to see, our universe is curved and it has a beginning and an eventual end. (No one ever seems to wonder what might be beyond this little universe.) In our analogy, there is the fridge, containing such diverse universes as a jar of pickles, a bag of bread and maybe even a molding tub of cottage cheese (jeez, thank God we live in the egg!). Speaking of God, where would he be in this scenario? Would he be watching over our little egg? Would he be the God of the refrigerator, too? Or would he be the God of the Whole Shabang...the egg, the mold, the fridge, the kitchen, the house, the world, everything? And if so, where does he live?
Why would he make eveything and not include himself in the mix?
Is he more comfortable on the sidelines?
Where ARE the freakin' sidelines?
If you ask me, the whole shabang never ends. It just keeps traveling, getting bigger and bigger, and, likewise, smaller and smaller. The only way any kind of god can fit into the whole thing is to BE the whole thing.
This then takes all the judgment (the hallmark of most religions) out of the picture. Everything simply is, and there is always something bigger and always something smaller, therefore nothing can ever be better or worse than anything else. So relax. Please. For God's sake.
